Great House Boat / Live A Board - 40' Aluminium Electric / Diesel Catamaran " Solar Coaster " - This is a very unusual boat, ahead of its time. Designed by Col Clifford, built by the owner in 2015 and power train set up by the owners father who was a solar installer and electrical expert. She has two Yanmar 21 hp diesel engines running DC generators to electric drive motors coupled to shafts and props. That is the simple version, the engines also feed power to two banks of batteries, which are also fed 7.2 kw of power from 28 x 260 watt solar panels. Now dont ask me any technical questions because I am still trying to get my head around it. Actually its pretty simple once explained by the owner. This is one very roomy and well layed out boat. Great live a board, or weekender. When underway she uses approx 3 liters per hour per engine at 6 to 7 knots. Can run on batteries only for short periods. Enormous bathroom could have a party in there. Two queen size berths in seperate cabins plus double berth in the saloon and one single.
